New Full-Size Minibus for Day Care Clients

item dated 28 March 2010

The small minibus has proved to be a big success in saving money.
A huge thanks to our volunteer drivers who have made this possible.
Now that we know it works, we are negotiating for a full-size minibus.

This represents a major investment for our small charity,
but the bus is fully accessible with easy steps and handrails

It has a fully power-operated lift at the back

Can take a total of 10 passengers plus 1 wheelchair.
Or can be reconfigured to take 2 wheelchairs and 8 passengers.
PLUS 1 or 2 escort-carers.

And can STILL be driven on a car licence (with D1 entitlement)
This was usually included for drivers who passed their test before 1996

Minibus to be sourced from B&B Commercials, Motherwell.

Now that we are going to provide transport on FRIDAY as well as WEDNESDAY we need more volunteer drivers. For INFORMATION -
Just email I can drive @ dalgety bay day care.org.uk (all one word with no spaces)

Volunteer Drivers Urgently Required

item dated 14 Sept 2009

The Day Care has a mini-bus. But it needs MORE volunteer drivers so that the service can be extended.

Can you give an hour or so of your time about every few weeks to drive this mini-bus?

It is not big (about the size of a Transit Van) and can be driven with a normal car licence (D1).

We are looking for volunteers for an hour in the morning and an hour in the afternoon; on Wednesday and Friday.

So 10 volunteers would mean driving about once every seven weeks.
Training would be given and volunteers would need to complete a disclosure check.

Please email help@dalgetybaydaycare.org.uk for more info.

Community Justice Team

item dated 2 Aug 2009

A big 'Thank-You' to the Fife & Forth Valley Community Justice Team.

A group from this organisation painted the outside of the Day Care Centre.

They also cleared up all the debris from the car park and area around the centre

We were very impressed by their work and their support for Dalgety Bay Day Care.

New GIANT Plant Pots

item dated 16 Nov 2008

The Day Care was pleased to receive a grant from Fife Council for Landscaping, topped up by further donations from the Community Council and Shell-Exxon

This has allowed us to improve the area around the Day Care by putting in giant plant pots (actually, large concrete pipe-sections supplied by Craigton Industries.

These were filled with earth and planted out by members of Dalgety Bay Horticultural Society.

We also erected name and direction signs so that the Day Care Centre can be more easily found.
Many thanks to everyone who helped on this project, and to all of you who continue to support the Day Care in so many ways. We are very grateful.

Big donation from John Muir (Construction)

item dated 9 July 2008

Local business man, John Muir, head of the building companies Muir Construction and Muir Homes based at Belleknowes Inverkeithing has long been a friend to the DayCare. He has helped draw imaginative plans for a large permanent Day Centre which are pending a redevelopment of the town centre. He also contributed professional and practical help in erecting the present modular buildings on site.

And in July, Mr Muir visted the Day Centre to present a cheque for £6,000 towards the running of the facility. This was a magnificent gesture which - naturally - was greeted with delight from the members who met him that day. The treasurer, Alec Cruickshank (left), enjoyed the cheque and the members enjoyed the strawberry tarts which Mr Muir brought with him. A big thank-you from everyone at the Day Centre.

Visit by the Prime Minister,
the Rt Hon Gordon Brown,
MP for this constituency

item dated 9 April 2008

The Day Care members and volunteers were paid a surprise visit by Gordon Brown on Wednesday 9 April. Mr Brown has held an interest in the Day Care and has long expressed a wish to be able to visit the members. Pressure of state business have prevented this until now.

Mr Brown was met by Mrs Jan Owenson, chair of the management team, and Mrs June Wallace, co-ordinator of Dalgety Bay daycare.

He took the opportunity to have a quick look round the premises and congratulated everyone on providing a valued community resource.

He also met with some of the clients who were clearly delighted to have a wee chat with the man who looks after the country and still supports 'Blue Brazil'.
