The Buildings Have Landed!

Big donation from John Muir (Construction)

item dated 9 July 2008

Local business man, John Muir, head of the building companies Muir Construction and Muir Homes based at Belleknowes Inverkeithing has long been a friend to the DayCare. He has helped draw imaginative plans for a large permanent Day Centre which are pending a redevelopment of the town centre. He also contributed professional and practical help in erecting the present modular buildings on site.

And in July, Mr Muir visted the Day Centre to present a cheque for £6,000 towards the running of the facility. This was a magnificent gesture which - naturally - was greeted with delight from the members who met him that day. The treasurer, Alec Cruickshank (left), enjoyed the cheque and the members enjoyed the strawberry tarts which Mr Muir brought with him. A big thank-you from everyone at the Day Centre.

Visit by the Prime Minister,
the Rt Hon Gordon Brown,
MP for this constituency

item dated 9 April 2008

The Day Care members and volunteers were paid a surprise visit by Gordon Brown on Wednesday 9 April. Mr Brown has held an interest in the Day Care and has long expressed a wish to be able to visit the members. Pressure of state business have prevented this until now.

Mr Brown was met by Mrs Jan Owenson, chair of the management team, and Mrs June Wallace, co-ordinator of Dalgety Bay daycare.

He took the opportunity to have a quick look round the premises and congratulated everyone on providing a valued community resource.

He also met with some of the clients who were clearly delighted to have a wee chat with the man who looks after the country and still supports 'Blue Brazil'.

Clients, carers and members of the public are welcome to call at the centre to meet staff and volunteers. Tea/Coffee and home-made baking available from 10am. There is also the opportunity to browse the second-hand book shelves. Proceeds help to finance the running costs of the Day Care Centre.

Second Opening day

item dated October 27, 2007

Since October 2007, the DayCare has started operating on a SECOND day each week. Clients can now benefit from a day at the Day Care Centre on Wednesdays or Fridays. At the moment, FUNDING is not wholly in place to pay for the second day, but the fund-raising group is diligently seeking additional financial support, as well as pursuing the Council to make good its contract through the Service Level Agreement to grant-aid the second day.

Official Opening of the Day Care Centre.

item dated September 17, 2007

The photo is of the official opening of Dalgety Bay Day Care Centre
on Monday 17 September 2007 at 11am.

Chair of the management committee, Mrs Jan Owenson,
welcomed Local MSP, Helen Eadie (right),
who performed the ceremony and paid tribute to the determination,
perseverance and hard work of the volunteers in achieving this.
Mrs Eadie is a long-time supporter of Dalgety Bay Day Care.

A number of sponsors and supporters of the charity
were able to attend on a bright, sunny
if a little chilly autumn morning.

The Prime Minister (Gordon Brown - our Westminster MP)
was unable to attend but sent this message.

"Best Wishes and congratulations to all the people who were involved
and for all their hard work in making sure that
Dalgety Bay Day Centre became a reality"

First day of the Day Care in the new building.

item dated August 17, 2007

OK, It took much longer than we expected to get to this stage.
But now we are here, was it worth the wait?
See what you think.

The ramp, rails and entrance look very smart

This is the dining area - compact but sufficient.
Someone brewing tea in the kitchen already!

The ladies seem quite content with their bright new room.

And the men, well - always ready for a laugh!

And the volunteers look happy too.

So, YES, all worth while
