Dalgety Bay is a fairly new town situated in SW Fife on the north side of the Firth of Forth, looking south towards the City of Edinburgh.   Included with Dalgety Bay in the Community Council area are the old villages of Fordell and Hillend.

Construction of the present town started in the early 1960's on the land of the former Donibristle Naval Air Station.   There are now over 3,000 houses with a population estimated to be around 13-14,000.

An enterprising property development company secured a large area of greenfield / brownfield land of the former airfield for housing development, and in 1964 the first houses were constructed.   Since then a number of house builders developed their own land packages.

There was later development of some fairly large areas of Public Sector houses together with Housing Co-operatives and Co-owner developments.   However, government policies in the 1980's to sell public housing stock to occupiers substantially increased the 'owner-occupier' rates.

The town has matured over the last 40 years, and is now fairly similar to many other suburban property developments throughout the country.   A few houses are still being built, but generally only small pockets of undeveloped land remain. It is on one of these that the Day-care association hopes to build a new day-care facility.
They have the land and planning permission, and now seek the funds.

This is the long-term PROPOSED site for a FUTURE new build.   (The tree has now been removed!)
It is centrally situated between the main shopping centre, the Church, Sports & Social club and Squash / Tennis club.

This is the main shopping centre, with local stores in other parts of the town.   There is a small light industrial estate near the town, built on the former airfield.   There are a few well-known names plus a range of smaller businesses covering Garage Services, Windows, Doors, Electronics, Printing, Wholesale.
